Anartist Open Mic Night #26 Solarbabies Movie Night!

March 2, 2025. And the Maker's Muse Festival in Chico, CA is coming up fast!

Our latest Anartist Open Mic Night was movie night! We watched the 1986 Brooksfilm movie Solarbabies with Jamie Gertz, Jason Patric and Lucas Haas then afterwards Angela and I chatted for a bit. I really enjoy the monthly (or so) movie nights and sharing some of my favorite movies with everyone. Not only is it a great way to clean your brain from all the craziness going on in the world, if watching any of the movies inspires even just one person to go out and create something new themselves the movie nights are totally worth it. Solarbabies might have tanked in the box office when it came out but I think it aged really well and is even more relevant today than when it was released in the 80s.

After next week’s Anartist Open Mic Night I’ll be uploading premieres for pre-recorded episodes for a couple of weeks while I travel to and from Chico, CA for the Maker’s Muse Festival hosted by Maker Radio March 21 and 22. I’ll be helping out with some of the speakers and generally volunteering with a bunch of other people AND Anartist and liason Brent Warr of Compass Rose is playing twice, Compass Rose and The Crash Carts! He’s put A LOT of work into the Maker’s Muse Festival and I’m really excited to see all his hard work come to fruition. It was really exciting to see what everyone pulled together organizing the Third Eye Carnival in Pueblo and I feel so honored that I get to share that experience with everyone. I will be traveling from upstate NY to northern California by train both ways due to health issues and each trip is almost 3 1/2 days and I need to raise funds so I can eat while I’m traveling. As I have health issues, I’m also living on a very limited income and I wouldn’t even be traveling to California if it weren’t for the overwhelming generosity of a friend and angel investor who purchased my train tickets. As much as I hate asking for anything more, as I stated I do need to eat. I plan on taking some things with me but space is limited when traveling by train especially for 3 1/2 days. I can bring non-perishable snacks and instant coffee but I’ll still need some meals and as much as I can eat on a limited budget it’s still outside my current funds to buy a meal a day. I’ve had a few donations and I’m very grateful for them but I need to raise some more funds. You can find ways to donate to me at https://linktr.ee/anartistcollective. Direct donations are best. I also have artwork for sale and if I get a direct sale order before next Thursday, March 13, I can ship them out before I leave for Chico. The funds on Ko-fi go through Stripe and can take a few days to go through so I can’t guarantee I can get an item shipped out before I leave next Sunday (!!!!). You can find my artwork for sale at my Ko-fi or through my direct sales page on AnartistCollective.com. I try not to get too personal here but I’ve had chronic health issues my whole life and I never got the opportunity to travel like this until last July when I went to Pueblo for the Third Eye Carnival, now this, and I’m 44 years old. Once I turned 40 I never thought I’d ever get the opportunity to travel like this and I never imagined I’d ever be involved with anything like this but it’s happening and it means more to me than anyone can ever know. I truly appreciate everyone, I just have a hard time saying it lol.

And if you live in northern California in or driving distance of Chico come to the Maker’s Muse Festival! I would love to meet as many people as possible while I’m out there and it’s really going to be a fun festival! There will even be kid’s activities!
